Mugabe is a Cancer

So Mbeki’s off on another jaunt, this time to visit his crony, Mad Bob. Presumably the visit’s aim is to bribe that harelipped son of a bachelor to leave quietly when he loses his election. The stated aim of mediation between the Zanu-PF and MDC is clearly as doomed to fail as all Mbeki’s efforts so far. Mugabe won’t even call his dogs off to allow the election to proceed without violent intimidation - does Mbeki really expect such a tyrant to be amenable to sweet reason?

What few seem to realise, least of all Thabo with his laughable policy of quiet diplomacy, is the futility of dialogue with a creature more malignant tumour than man. I suggest the disease know as rectal cancer be renamed “Mugabe,” in recognition of his role in turning Zimbabwe into the hemorrhaging anus of the world. The scourge of Mugabe has long been metastasizing throughout Southern Africa - one need look no further than the refugee situation in South Africa for proof. Plain for all to see, the ongoing racial violence sparked by the mass exodus of Zimbabweans has led to a deadly crisis, one not even , Mbeki, that clueless bungler, can deny any longer.

Should Mugabe refuse to relinquish power - and he will - when he’s voted out - and he will be, whatever the official results - it seems likely civil war will erupt in beleaguered Zimbabwe. So say the Zimbabwe Resistance Movement; if Mugabe doesn’t go they’ll take up arms. And who can blame them? It seems to me that the options for ordinary Zimbabweans are to starve to death like dogs while Mr. Ass Cancer lives in palatial splendour, or to die trying to overthrow him - and perhaps they’ll even succeed. Whatever happens, the outcome for South Africa can only be disastrous: Mugabe remains in power and desperate refugees continue to pour into South Africa, fuelling the xenophobic crisis and further destabilising an already perilously unstable country. Or, alternately, Zimbabwe tears itself apart in civil war and even greater numbers of desperate refugees continue to pour into our South Africa, fuelling the xenophobic crisis and further destabilising an already perilously unstable country. Does anyone honestly see a workable solution here? I sure as hell don’t, beyond emigrating.
